House of 1,000 Beers, a bottle shop and craft beer destination that’s grown into a seven-figure business out of a 3,500-square-foot location in New Kensington, is being sold.
Art Barbus, an avid home brewer and former facilities director at the Asbury Heights senior care facility in Mount Lebanon, is in the process of buying the business from the owner and founder, Dave Sagrati, who is retiring.
On the verge of owning his own business after his previous job was eliminated after 20 years, Barbus sounds like a kid at Christmas, the time of year, not coincidentally, that Barbus takes over the business and the month that’s the best of the year for beer sales.
The timing worked out well for Barbus, who had recently begun working with Wexford restaurant consultant Ron Sofranko to help him establish a new bottle shop. A few weeks later, one of the region’s best-known bottle shops became available for sale.
